East Anglian Delights

I have just come back from a visit to East Anglia prompted by a death in the family. This was a very sad occasion but it was also a very happy one as it was an opportunity to meet members of my family and a reminder of how precious they are to me despite our meeting so rarely.

On a completely different note, I wonder if I can generate any capital by pointing people in the general direction of some of the places I visited and things that I did during my stay. Or perhaps it doesn't work like that?

I would certainly recommend a visit to the Fleur de Lys, a very nice pub in the village of Widdington near Saffron Walden in Essex. http://thefleurdelys.co.uk/ Excellent pub food in a pleasant understated setting. (Difficult to find adjectives which have not been beaten to death by advertising copywriters and house agents.) I also enjoyed the pizzas, or at least one of them, at the Prezzo restaurant http://www.restaurant-guide.com/prezzo-saffron-walden.htm in Saffron Walden.
Looking for fresh fish? Look no further than the Aldeburgh Fresh Fish Company: http://www.aldeburghfreshfish.com/ I was also agreeably impressed by the Lotus Fish Bar in Braintree's fashionable Challis Lane district: http://www.locallife.co.uk/braintree/moreinfo.asp?site=BRAINTREE&p3link=26430&dispmode=map

In the course of my stay, I finished a wonderful book called People of the Book by Geraldine BrooksPeople of the Book: A Novel and started another by Basil Hume O.S.B. called To Be a Pilgrim.  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Be-Pilgrim-reissue-Basil-Hume/dp/0281061203
I was also tempted by, but finally decided against, the DVD of Kick-Ass starring Nicholas Cage.

Now I have just have to sit back and wait for the advertising revenue to start pouring in.
